LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY
Nicola has a natural way with people and easily can turn a session burdened with nerves into a relaxed fun experience. A keen informed eye means this is an area she wishes to explore more.
Nicola believes that Environmental portraiture engages you directly with the subject making you think about their lives, what they do, who they are – documentary film is vital in our quest for knowledge. For Nicola photography is a static two-dimensional message capturing a more explorative emotive response remaining with the viewer. This arresting engagement of the image to the viewer allows the audience to apply their own knowledge making a photograph more open to interpretation.
Culture and difference, have always fascinated Nicola commonly cross-referencing
Social Commentary in her imagry.
Her collection of interior nudes comments on the mass hysteria in home
interior and DIY a trend hitting the nation in the 90's by“Changing
Rooms” and other programmes in this genre.
“It is a comment upon a society that partakes in dressing their
homes from mass produced companies such as Ike, by following the latest
trend. Similarly to surface decoration on the body; how we dress ourselves
in accordance to what the high street dictates. You could state that the
individual is merely disguising their own taste and style, becoming mass-produced
individuals. And in theory, stripping away their own individual interpretation
and identity.”
